Your partner for energy storage solutions
John Cockerill Energy Transition offers BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems – electrical batteries) and TESS (Thermal Energy Storage Systems – thermal batteries). Our expertise includes molten salt and solid-state thermal batteries as well as Redox, Li-ion and NaS batteries (among others). Battery systems offer significant benefits such as auto consumption, grid services, backup during outages, stabilize the grid by balancing supply and demand, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, leading to more sustainable and resilient energy systems. It also provides additional revenue streams to its owners through a value stacking approach, boosting its business case.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
John Cockerill Energy Transition has built a unique expertise in all types of BESS, through its Miris station in its headquarters, consisting of two types of batteries representing 5.5 MWh of energy storage. The particularity of MiRIS, which makes it a unique project in Europe, is the diversity of the installed battery technologies and the extensive flexibility of the various electrical network configurations allowed by the system.
Thermal Energy Storage Systems (TESS)
Thermal batteries is an exciting technology complementing BESS and helping to provide energy storage solutions. These batteries are of many types. At John Cockerill, we offer two of the major technologies available: molten salt batteries and solid-state batteries.
Molten salt thermal battery
We offer a comprehensive and integrated molten salt Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system, combining technologies, sized and designed to store efficiently green electricity in medium temperature range (from 300 to 600°C). We leverage our expertise in mechanical equipment handling molten salt from more than 10 years of experience in the Concentrated Solar Power industry.
Solid state thermal battery
When the storage range of temperature increase to the range of 600-1200°C, our solid state thermal battery technology is there to efficiently store high temperature energy either from electrically generated source or waste heat.
